A Parish Mission
Is a time when we come together toReflect on our lives in the light of the Gospel Message.
Is a time when we come together to Pray as a Christian Community.
Is a Time when we come to Celebrate our Faith in Jesus as our Redeemer and Liberator.

"
A Mission is a God-send! The Missioners come in the name of Jesus, to help each one reflect again on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to see how we can help one another, build up community and make our parish a better place to live in."
  .
First of all, a parish Mission is a special event, happening or activity in the life of a parish. It is a coming together of all the parishioners. It is a time when God moves amongst His people in a very special way. It is a moment of grace, a time when we meet our Lord Jesus in a new and different way.
Family Group Image It is a time of prayer, a time set aside to reflect on our life and our relationship with God and others.

For the devout, it is a time to be more fervent. For the careless, a time to make amends and start afresh. For all people it is a chance to hear Christ’s message anew and experience themselves for who they really are, God’s forgiven and redeemed people. So it is a time for the faith batteries of the parish community to be re-charged and for all people to be re-awakened in faith and to be newly fired by the Holy Spirit.

What Happens?

Nothing short of miracles! Peoples lives are changed. A new life and vigor touches their spirit. People become aware and attuned to a loving God, and they are made whole again.
Who is it for?
It is for the whole community of believers located in a certain area;
God's people living in a particular part of His kingdom. In other words, it is a get-together of the entire parish in order to look at their way of life and at that which gives them life.

God Loves a Cheerful Giver It is so easy to drift along in life while forgetting about it’s real purpose. It’s so easy to get caught up in the anxieties and concerns of this life without proper thought for the life that lasts forever. Thus a Mission it is an extremely important time in our life because it helps us do just this. It is a time that we take seriously since it doesn't happen very often. Because it is for the whole parish its effects can be felt, however small, through the entire community. Thus it is a MUST for the whole parish. Why?- because it is a time when our faith is refreshed, our hopes renewed, our ties of love deepened, our attitudes changed (converted) and new directions and horizons are seen in our beliefs.
Finally, during a Parish Mission, peace and joy are rediscovered in people’s lives.

Mission and Parish Renewal
The mission enables the process of Parish Renewal through;
  • Listening to the voice of the parishioners.
  • Celebrating as a parish.
  • Coming to a new sense of Church
  • Laying the foundations for a process of renewal inspired by the spirit of collaboration.

FAMILY PRAYER FOR THE MISSION

Jesus, Lord, open our hearts to the experience of the Mission.

Come and save us from our sinful ways.

Kneel and pray image Free us from our selfishness.

Open our hearts to listen to your Word.

Reconcile us to our neighbours.

Bring us closer to you and to one another.

Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on us.

Mary, Mother of Jesus, pray for us.

Bring peace to every home.

St. John the Baptist, help us to know Jesus.

A prayerful atmosphere is very important during the time of mission. Here we use candles, light and darkness to help create this prayerful mood.
