THEME Day 5: Looking Forward- Called to trust in God’s providence.

Prayers for the Day

A Reading from the First Letter of St. John.

Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us, by letting us be called God’s children; and that is what we are. Because the world refused to acknowledge him, therefore it does not acknowledge us. My dear people, we are already the children of God, but what we are to be in the future has not yet been revealed; all we know is that, when it is revealed, we shall be like him because we shall see him as he really is. Surely everyone who entertains this hope must purify themselves, must try to be as pure as Christ.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Opening Prayer:

Compassionate God,
You guard us under the shadow of your wings,
You alone are our hope and our strength.
Open our eyes, that we might recognise you,
For in you alone do our hearts find rest.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Prayer over the Gifts:

Lord,
May the gifts we offer
Increase our love for you,
And bring us to eternal life.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Concluding Prayer:

Lord of Light,
You guide your people along the right path,
And give us a joy that can only be found in you.
May the food we receive in this Eucharist
Increase our faith and lead us to eternal life.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
