Prayers for the Day

A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians:

If our life in Christ means anything to you, if love can persuade at all, or the Spirit that we have in common, or any tenderness and sympathy, then be united in your convictions and united in your love. There is one thing that would make me completely happy: there must be no competition among you no conceit, but everybody is to be self-effacing. Always consider the other person to be better than yourself, so that nobody thinks of their own interests first but everybody thinks of other people’s interests instead. In your minds, you must be the same as Christ Jesus.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Opening Prayer:

Loving Lord,
You are close to those who call upon you,
And hear the prayers of those who praise you.
Open our minds and hearts to hear your word,
For you alone have the words of eternal life.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Prayer over the Gifts:

Lord,
May the gifts we offer
Increase our love for you,
And bring us to eternal life.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Concluding Prayer:

Loving Father,
You renew us at your table with the bread of life.
May this food strengthen us in love and justice,
And help us to serve you in each other.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
